Venus Retrograde 2026 and Relationships: Dating, Exes, Love, and Self-Worth

Venus retrograde is coming. We're actually already in its shadow since late August. Nobody likes retrograde season, but this is one I have grown to appreciate. Dealing with worth and self-worth becomes easier as you age. You know yourself better, and you become less dependent on outside validation.

This is what Venus retrograde is mostly about: any kind of worth, really. Whether it's your looks, your assets, or, for sure, your relationship.

So, I'll try to keep this article clear and focused on relationships, but Venus is more than that.

First, the general: Venus goes retrograde about every 19 months. It also has an 8-year structure, with Venus retrogrades returning to a similar area of the zodiac approximately every 8 years.

You can inspect the retrograde that happened back in 2018, from October 5 to November 16, and see what you dealt with back then. I won't do that this year; for me, what's happening now feels more relevant.

I will welcome a new relationship if it enters while Venus is retrograde, with the general advice to be ultra aware. Relationships you are attracted to have a reason. And I have seen a few, not many, not marriages, but a few actual long-term meaningful relationships that met and started during Venus retrograde.

I have seen many more illusions happen at the same time: meeting under Venus retro, falling deep in love, waking up to reality as soon as it passes.

Yes, it is worth remembering and honoring the fact that we wear pink glasses sometimes. How do we see things? Through which prism? When entering a relationship, do we see the other person, or our own wishes? When dating, Venus retrograde may bring this question up, so the advice ahead is: take it slow. I will detail more below.

Venus Retrograde 2026, Dates and Degrees

This Venus retrograde starts on October 3 at 8°29' Scorpio and ends on November 13–14, depending on your time zone, at 22°52' Libra. Venus moves backward through this range, from Scorpio back into Libra. It enters Libra again on October 25.

The pre-shadow began on August 31, so you may already know which subjects this retrograde will deal with. I have a clue about mine. I am ready, though I may be surprised, as the future is unknown.

In Scorpio, where Venus is in detriment, the retrograde may bring up questions about intimacy, trust, sex, attachment, jealousy, vulnerability, and what lies beneath the attraction.

In Libra, one of the signs Venus rules, the focus may shift to the relationship itself: Is it mutual? Is it fair? Are both people giving and receiving something of value?

How this retrograde affects you depends on the houses Venus moves through in your chart and the aspects it makes to your natal planets. A harmonious aspect does not lose its benefits just because Venus is retrograde. If the exact aspect falls within Venus's retrograde range, Venus makes it three times: before the retrograde, during it, and afterward. Its benefits may unfold gradually across those three passes.

On October 23, Venus meets the Sun at 0°45' Scorpio, the midpoint of its retrograde cycle. This may be especially significant for people born around October 23 or 24. It can be a positive transit that also prompts reflection on love and self-worth. Mercury turns retrograde the next day, October 24, at 20°59' Scorpio.

This is the part I expect to feel more stressful. Mercury retrograde makes general communication more complicated, while Venus retrograde is making us question what we want and value. People may become nervous from the different pace, misunderstand messages, or react to doubts they are already having inside. Read messages carefully, and avoid rushing to conclusions from delayed replies, silence, and unclear messages.

Mercury turns direct on November 13 at 5°02' Scorpio. Venus follows on November 13–14, depending on your time zone, at 22°52' Libra.

Dating, Exes and Relationships

You can date during Venus retrograde. Life does not stop. But it is better to move slowly. Do not rush labels, engagement, moving in, or major romantic promises.

A new connection may feel familiar, magnetic, or unusually intense, especially while Venus is in Scorpio. That does not make it false. It means you need time.

An ex may return during Venus retrograde. This does not automatically mean destiny, or that you should get back together. It may be an opportunity to reconsider what the relationship meant to you, how you saw yourself in it, and how you see yourself now.

For existing couples, Venus retrograde can bring old issues back to the surface. This can be useful if both people are willing to be honest. It can support repair, deeper conversations, and finally naming what has been avoided.

If a relationship has been held together by silence, unequal effort, jealousy, or fear, the retrograde may make those things harder to ignore.

Venus retrograde is not against relationships. It is about introspection and reassessment. You might see value in something during the retrograde that diminishes afterward. It doesn't mean you shouldn't have tried it.

Scorpio, Jealousy and What Is Underneath

Venus starts in Scorpio, so jealousy can come up. A word about that.

Jealousy often has fear underneath it: fear of losing someone, fear of not being enough, fear of being replaced, or fear that the relationship is not as secure as we thought. That fear does not necessarily come from the other person's behavior. Sometimes it comes from our own self-worth issues, old experiences, or doubts that already exist inside us.

Of course, sometimes the other person's behavior really is the reason for jealousy. The point is not to automatically blame ourselves or dismiss our intuition. It is to separate the two: What is this person actually doing, and what am I afraid it means?

Beauty, Projects and Launches

Venus also covers beauty, branding, pricing and design, so this retrograde touches work as much as love. It is a good time to revise, refine, review your pricing and fix what already exists. A brand-new launch or a big change to how you look is riskier, because what feels urgent now may not feel right after Venus turns direct. If something must launch, leave room to adjust it.

Where Will Venus Retrograde Affect You?

As always, your natal chart matters. The house or houses Venus travels through show the area of life being reviewed. Run your Natal Chart if you need the houses.

In the 5th house, the focus can be dating, desire, romance, pleasure, creativity, and the experience of being chosen.

In the 7th house, it can bring questions around partnership, commitment, marriage, and one-to-one relationships.

In the 8th house, the themes can become more intimate: sex, trust, fear, shared resources, emotional merging, and what we owe or hold onto in close relationships.

The retrograde can also be more personal if it crosses your Venus, Moon, Sun, Mars, Ascendant, Descendant, 7th-house ruler, or Sun/Moon midpoint.

For this particular retrograde, pay attention to planets and points around 22° to 29° Libra and 0° to 8° Scorpio, as well as major aspects involving Taurus, Leo, Aquarius, Aries, Cancer, and Capricorn.

The more personal the contact, the more likely Venus retrograde will feel like an actual review rather than simply something happening in the background.

And perhaps that is the most useful way to approach it. Not as a period when you are supposed to stop living, dating, loving, creating, or enjoying yourself, but as a period when you may see more clearly what something is worth to you.
